This news is going to mean a lot more bargains for Irish online shoppers.
Amazon-UK have removed almost all restrictions on shipping goods to Ireland (April 2009).
Previously - Irish online shoppers could only get jealous and angry as they bought their books, cds and DVds on Amazon and saw all the other great prices on laptops, cameras, camcorders , satnav - ie. almost everything else they sell.
Well now - Irish shoppers (ie all of Western Europe) can get all items delivered to their door by Amazon. This is not an April fools joke - I have tried it and it is true. I ordered an Xbox Console , a Laptop, a Digital Camera all for delivery to the West of Ireland - and there was no problem getting through checkout. Usually you would be told at checkout that your items could not be delivered to your address. Not any more.

The prices shown on the Amazon UK include UK VAT (15%) .
Irish customers - correctly and legally - get charged Irish VAT (21.5%) . So just be aware of that when you notice a difference in the price at checkout.
If you want to work out a final price yourself - just add on 5.65 pence for every pound or £5.65 on every hundred pounds.
Note: Make sure the item you have selected is being sold by Amazon and not by one of their marketplace sellers. Many of the other sellers don’t deliver to Ireland

Walmart who own Asda in the UK - is rumoured to be looking at buying Dunnes Stores in Ireland.
Asda.ie redirects visitors to Walmart.com - but they don’t deliver to Ireland.
Asda have an excellent online shopping site though - so even if Asda don’t come to Ireland you can always do some shopping at Asda Entertainment. They sell DVDs Books and Games with delivery to Ireland. The prices can be very good at times. It isn’t obvious from the Asda site that they do deliver to Ireland - but they do. I have checked with customer support at Asda. They tols me that delivery to Ireland is £1.59 - but it doesn’t seem to be mentioned on the Asda website. Save yourself a journey to Northern Ireland and get the Sterling prices from the comfort of your chair.

If you were hoping to do some online shopping at Currys and you live in Ireland - then don’t bother.
Currys are another major retailer that currently don’t offer online shopping in Ireland.
If you live in Northern Ireland or elsewhere in the UK - you can shop online here at Currys UK site. Currys.ie web site is just a list of shop locations. Currys recently took over all the Dixons stores in Ireland - so don’t bother looking for Dixons.ie either - still no online shopping there either.
In ireland - Currys have shops in Dublin Galway Limerick Sligo , Navan, Letterkenny Dundalk and Cork. Maybe they will allow orders online in Ireland one day?
For online purchases of electricals in Ireland you should try Pixmania . Pixmania is the biggest European online electrical store and it is actually part of the same retail group as Currys , Dixons and PC World.
Pixmania Ireland will deliver to Ireland - everything from Digital Cameras to Dysons, from Tvs to Laptops, Toasters to Juicers, MP3 Players to XBox 360. Delivery prices are not over the top either.

They have released new discount codes which enable anyone to get up to €50 euro off your orders. The codes are valid until November 11th 2008 - so could come in handy for some early Christmas shopping.

The Wii Fit game seems to be in short supply in Ireland and the UK - so if you are planning on buying it as a Christmas present you might need to start trying to find one soon. Last Christmas the availability of the Nintento Wii console was very poor at most online shops as well as the “bricks and mortar” ones - Christmas 2008 could see the same problem with the Wii Fit.
At the time of writing this article you could buy Wii Fit online in Ireland at Viking Direct for €120 euro delivered. That is higher than the usual price. (The price shown is €99.99 but VAT is added at checkout)
If Viking have sold out you could try Pixmania - they do sell Wii consoles and a small selection of games.
HMV sometimes have the Wii Fit in stock - and delivery to Ireland is just £2.50
Zavvi had the Wii Fit for a few hours in November - check now for availability. Delivery is £2 per order and £2 per item.
Game also deliver to Ireland and delivery is £2.95 (Free in NI)
You could also look for the Wii Fit game at Play - delivery is free to anywhere in Europe.
The Hut may have the Wii Fit too - delivery to Ireland is possible.
Amazon will deliver Wii Fit to Northern Ireland - but not the Republic.
If you do manage to find Wii Fit in stock at any of the above sites - order quickly because they sell out very quickly.
The Nintendo Wii console was in big demand and short supply for Christmas 2007 - and hopefully those shortages will not happen for Christmas 2008. You could beat any possible Christmas rush and price increases by buying your Wii console now.
You could make a trip to your local Smyths Toys I suppose (who don’t do online shopping) and pay €269.99 for a Nintendo Wii console. (Price correct on Nov 25th 2008) .
Or you could save yourself some money and a bit of petrol by buying your Wii Console online at Pixmania - delivered to Ireland for just €227.90 (includes Wii Sports game a Wiimote with a strap and a Nunchuk controller.) Price checked Nov 26th 2008).
So you could save €42 Euro by buying the Wii console at Pixmania Ireland.
