This page shows the current Electronics  “Movers and Shakers”  on Amazon - the electronic items that are selling the fastest on Amazon UK. It’s updated every hour - and is usually a good indication of good bargains or products that have had good reviews elsewhere. If something is selling fast - there is usually a good reason for it.

Don’t forget - free delivery now available to Ireland on orders over £25 pounds from Amazon UK (Televisions can’t be delivered to Ireland.)

This news is going to mean a lot more bargains for Irish online shoppers.
Amazon-UK have removed almost all restrictions on shipping goods to Ireland (April 2009).
Previously - Irish online shoppers could only get jealous and angry as they bought their books, cds and DVds on Amazon and saw all the other great prices on laptops,  cameras, camcorders , satnav - ie. almost everything else they sell.
Well now - Irish shoppers (ie all  of Western Europe) can get all items delivered to their door by Amazon. This is not an April fools joke - I have tried it and it is true. I ordered an Xbox Console , a Laptop,  a Digital Camera all for delivery to the West of Ireland - and there was no problem getting through checkout. Usually you would be told at checkout that your items could not be delivered to your address. Not any more.

The prices shown on the Amazon UK include UK VAT (15%) .
Irish customers - correctly and legally - get charged Irish VAT (21.5%) . So just be aware of that when you notice a difference in the price at checkout.
If you want to work out a final price yourself - just add on 5.65 pence  for every pound or £5.65 on every hundred pounds.

Note: Make sure the item you have selected is being sold by Amazon and not by one of their marketplace sellers. Many of the other sellers don’t deliver to Ireland

There are also restrictions on weight - any item that is 30 kg or heavier, cannot be delivered outside mainland UK. (Will probably only apply to some fitness equipment or lawnmowers etc)

All the shops are trying to attract customers with these short 20% off everything sales. It’s better than the usual practice of putting up all the prices for Christmas.

If you want to get 20% off fashion and homeware - or 10% off beauty , electricals , food and furniture - you need to print off this  discount voucher and show it when you do your shopping. It can be used more than once by as many people as you like.  There is only the one HOF store in Ireland - in Dundrum.
Online shoppers don’t lose out though because you can shop online at House of Fraser and get the same discount with a special code which is FF08 valid from tomorrow morning (Dec 4th ) to Sunday night Dec 7th.
Delivery to Ireland is £15 GBP per order ;  £10 GBP to  Northern Ireland and £4 for mainland UK destinations.

The Printer is a Canon Selphy CP740 - which is available at Pixmania for €111.75 Euro.

The Camera is a Canon Ixus 70 - which ia a 7Mega Pixel camera . It is a stylish, very compact, well-built point and shoot digital camera . It was released in 2007 - so it’s not one of the latest models - but it is a good camera and the best price we could find was £129 GBP - or about €155 Euro

So the typical  cost   of  the camera and printer bought online separately would be about €267 Euro -
The Viking price is €117 less than that. Vikings previous  price for the combination was €278 Euro.

The hands free  Garmin Nuvi 860 Satellite Navigation System has voice activated control - it will  listen to your voice commands.  Currys Ireland are advertising the Garmin 860 Sat Nav for €529.99 - saying that you save €70 Euro. But - you can buy the Garmin 860 online at Pixmania for €449 plus delivery of €12.90 - total price €461.90. That is a saving of €62 Euro when compared to Currys price. There are plenty of other good deals on Pixmania. If you use one of the Pixmania Discount codes Here - you will get another €7 Euro discount .

With the nUvi 860’s speech recognition function, you can control your GPS  with your voice while keeping both hands on the wheel, thanks to the remote pad designed for steering wheels. Simply state the address and the nüvi 860 will take you there. The nüvi 860 also has a large 4.3-inch touch screen. The Garmin 860 has another great feature for safe drivng - it reads out text messages when you mobile phone is connected up via the Bluetooth connection!  It also has an FM transmitter, allowing you to send music from your GPS through your in-car speakers without adding any extras!

Buying washing machines online in Ireland is almost impossible. None of the major online electrical retailers offer delivery to Ireland on appliances such as washing machines or dishwashers. Stores like Currys, Dixons, Pixmania, Comet, Amazon , Boots , Empire Direct John Lewis, don’t sell appliances to Irish residents. Most don’t even deliver to Northern Ireland .
DID Electrical , Discount Electrical and Powercity are 3 Irish based retailers that will allow online shopping - but the prices and product ranges available are not great.

Most of us will end up driving to the nearest big electrical chain store or an indpendent local shop and get sold something based on how it looks or what the salesperson says. The sales people have targets to meet and some shops only deal with certain makes or brands. You could end up buying an expensive machine that may not perform as well as other brands. Why not use the services of Which to help you find the Best Buys in Washing Machines and almost anything else you can think of buying. They also tell you which one to avoid.
The Which web site subscription is available to UK and Irish residents. They have a 30 day trial offer for just £1. You might have trouble actually buying a washing machine online - but you can do all the research before you choose the best model for your needs and budget. The surveys , tests and reviews are very detailed. Which does consumer reports on a wide range of products - from cameras to Sat Nav, Cookers Fridges Dishwashers, MP3 players and more.

If you were hoping to do some online shopping at Currys and you live in Ireland - then don’t bother.
Currys are another major retailer that currently don’t offer online shopping in Ireland.
If you live in Northern Ireland or elsewhere in the UK -  you can shop online here at Currys UK site. Currys.ie web site is just a list of shop locations. Currys recently took over all the Dixons stores in Ireland - so don’t bother looking for Dixons.ie either - still no online shopping there either.

In ireland - Currys have shops in Dublin Galway Limerick Sligo , Navan,  Letterkenny Dundalk and Cork. Maybe they will allow orders online in Ireland one day?

For online purchases of electricals in Ireland you should try Pixmania . Pixmania  is the biggest  European online electrical store and it is actually part of the same retail group as Currys , Dixons and PC World.
Pixmania Ireland will deliver to Ireland - everything from Digital Cameras to Dysons, from Tvs to Laptops, Toasters to Juicers, MP3 Players to XBox 360. Delivery prices are not over the top either.

John Lewis - the “upmarket” department store currently has no shops on the island of Ireland - but one is planned for the Sprucefield centre near Lisburn in Northern Ireland. It is not expected to be ready for a couple of years.
In the meantime - online shoppers in Northern Ireland can order from The John Lewis website and get FREE DELIVERY on all orders. John Lewis sell electrical items, designer clothes, beauty products, furniture, rugs, toys - a one stop shop for almost everything! A great place to arrange your Wedding present list online too.
Republic of Ireland customers - I am afraid - cannot get deliveries from John Lewis - but you could do your online clothes shopping at any of the sites below instead - who all deliver to Ireland.

Gareth Thomas, John Lewis’s director of retail design and development, has previously said that  the company viewed Sprucefield as the only viable location for a store in Northern Ireland. However, the firm is also keen to open south of the border.
(Probably Dundrum).

Maplin sell thousands of electronic products from cables, connectors and components to disco, HiFi, computers and GPS equipment. Maplins have a few shops in Ireland - but no Maplin.ie or Maplins.ie web sites.

Delivery charges to Ireland aren’t listed - but we were charged just £7.25 for an order of 6 bulky items.
