Perhaps the biggest rival to Apple’s iPhone 5 in Ireland is the Samsung Galaxy S3. Samsung and Apple have been battling it out in the smartphone market for a few years now with both making constant innovations to their revolutionary products in order to try and get ahead of the game.
The Galaxy S3 is Samsung’s successor to the hugely popular S2 and makes many improvements on the handset. The S3 has improved battery life, quad core processors, Bluetooth 4.0, double the storage (64Gb) and an improved screen. The device also runs the Android operating system, one of the most reliable and constraint-free in the world. The S3 comes in a curved ‘pebble’ design, so it fits in the hand much more naturally compared to traditional smartphones.
As far as buying the Galaxy S3 in Ireland sim-free, it will set you back upwards of €500. However the phone is available from all mobile networks on contract at either a reduced rate or even completely free.
Meteor has the S3 on contract through a range of price plans, the cheapest being €40.66 per month for a 24 month contract. This will give you a free handset, 200 minutes, 200 texts and 5Gb of data.
For the same price per month over 24 months, with a handset cost of €69 Three Ireland offers all you can eat data and 350 flexi-units. One flexi-unit is equal to one minute of call time or 2 texts to any network.
To receive a free S3 via Vodafone you will need to avail of their ‘MyWay Complete’ plan which will set you back €65 per month. Vodafone’s ‘MyWay Plus‘ plans are customizable and come with free calls and texts to all Vodafone mobiles as standard. An example plan that I put together included 200 minutes, unlimited texts and 1Gb of data, this plan would cost €48 per month as well as a €149.99 charge for the device itself.
O2 offer the Galaxy S3 to Irish customers at a minimum cost of €109. A prime example of an average price plan that they offer is the O2 choices 800 24 month plan. This includes 200 minutes and 600 texts as well as 1Gb of data per month and will cost €50 per month.
After looking at everything Meteor, Vodafone and O2 have to offer it seems that Three have the best all-round plan for the Galaxy S3 in Ireland. With unlimited data and the handy flexi-unit system it is definitely worth the €69 you’ll pay for the handset.
